I need you get this image in your head. We had to get a load of lumber out to the house so that they could finally finish our framing and overhangs. The guy had thought he would get it tomorrow, but the supply place we are using is not open on Saturday, so I had to put in a rush order and we..Ann and I.. had to pick it up by 4:30. If we did not, we risked them not being able to work until it was delivered next week. Ironically, they probably won’t even begin this weekend, though they said they were. I don’t believe anything anymore.
Anyway, we had to get 40 pieces of lumber, some eight foot, some twelve foot and some sixteen foot. Well, the problem began when they realize that the sixteen foot pieces were sticking out so far off the truck that they acted like a see-saw, and they were not going to stay in the truck. It was decided that I would sit in the back of the truck, on the boards, to keep them from flipping out.
This was my view:
That picture was taken with my cell phone, but I got too scared and had to hold on with both arms, so I could not take anymore photos. We drove the eight miles ( I cannot tell you how many people laughed at me.) to our house, or at least to our road. When the truck hit the gravel, a tire or two spun, and then they caught the road……they caused a jerk, and all the lumber lurched and started sliding out of the truck….WITH ME ON IT. It was almost in slow motion as I surfed on that sea of lumber. Thankfully the sixteen foot ones were too long to join the others on the street, and I gracefully-NOT- slid down the long ones.
One of the local dirt bike enthusiasts was there to witness and helped us load the lumber back on the truck. Actually we had to do it in three loads. As the kid was loading the last 2×6x16 onto the truck he accidentally put it through Ann’s back window. View it here:
Notice how tastefully we have it secured so she can go to work tomorrow
So this is what we are promised about Possum Manor:
Framing, overhangs and decks will be done next week. hahah I will believe that when I see it! The doors were to be hung tonight, but we did not see anyone there to do it except that dog that poops in our driveway. We should have our electrical and heat inspections done by the end of next week, which means the following week we can have the insulation and drywall done. Sounds too good to be true.
Keep your fingers crossed.

The image in my head of you surfing that lumber out of the back of that truck almost made me spit tea all over my keyboard. Warn a body next time
Hate to hear about the truck window though. Hope it doesn’t cost a lot to fix.
