* I have to dedicate today to a family friend who passed a few weeks ago. I happily, luckily, thankfully fell into an extended family while still in New Jersey. Gosh this must have been twenty years now. We did so much together, but mostly we laughed. I know that sounds silly, but any of us could get together, no matter where, no matter what, and laugh. And now when we talk, we laugh about what we laughed about. Well, every Good Friday, Roseanna would make a fish dinner. Not just any fish dinner, but everyone got what they wanted, how they wanted it. She could be making six or seven different kinds of fish. One would want it fried, the next broiled. It did not matter. On Good Friday you had fish however you wanted. Harry, who passed recently, would announce EVERY Good Friday dinner, ” What’s so good about a Friday if you have to eat fish!” And we would laugh. I plan to eat fish tonight, just so I can say it.

* My mom use to make us stay inside on Good Friday from 12-3. She said if my grandma’s house was to burn down during that time, she would perish in the fire, because she would not leave. I never heard of any one else being shut in for those three house. We could read during that time, but we could not watch television.

* When I grew up, there was a church service on television on Sunday mornings called, ” Mass for Shut Ins.” I swear it.

* Our porch is to be started tomorrow. I have next week off, and in between two dentist appointments I am going to get all the extra stuff out of this house and into storage. That will be no small task. Larry and I are going to finish the window trim and moldings on Saturday. All that leaves is painting the guest room, laundry room and upstairs bath. Then we call the guy to come out and clean the carpets and downstairs furniture……AND WE ARE DONE!!!!!!

* Well, done but the landscaping, and that cannot be done right now anyway. We are going to seed the yard this weekend and throw straw on it, but the rest hast to wait three or four weeks. I just know there is a snow left for us sometime. The Bradford pear trees and blooming along the highway. That is a good sign.

* Peace Out

  1. OK….I’m teary eyed…..the dedication was VERY sweet of you!! funny, I was thinking of you this afternoon because I know how much you got a kick out of what my dad used to say…..and every Good Friday, including today……I had to repeat those infamous words “What’s so GOOD about a Friday if you can’t eat meat!!” because it just doesn’t feel like Good Friday if those words aren’t spoken. :)

  2. Hi Kathie,
    Dianna told me about your dedication to Harry. I just got in to your site to read it. Thanks so very much. I miss all the good times we had. I miss laughing with you. I called the night of your birthday but the phone said you were not available. I sang Happy Birthday to you. I hope you got the message. Your house looks really nice and I am so happy for you that you are nearing completion. Hope to talk to you or see you soon.
    Luv, Roseanna
