I was happy to finally see the white stuff. They called off school last night, so I did not have to wake four hundred times to check out the “Who is Closed” list on the internet. We did not get that much, but enough to make the mountain roads dangerous.
So, Ann and I watched the Inauguration together, and then decided to hit the streets. We did a few errands and went to a late lunch. Ann then headed to PMW, and I headed home. My day went down from there.
I could not get up our road. I have NEVER not gotten up the road, but I have a different car this year. My car is front wheel drive instead of all wheel drive, and I think it is not long for this family. I got part of the way up, and then could go no farther. I cannot back up for anything, and there I was stuck halfway up a mountain road. I inched back and finally got to the bottom where I left my car. Someone else’s car was parked there also. So, I packed up what I could and started walking up the road.
All I could think of was that I had to be at school by 7AM tomorrow because of state testing. That would mean I would have to walk down the mountain in the dark, wild animals nipping at my heals. I was really not looking forward to it. I looked on line, and every school district for fifty miles was going to be closed or have a delayed opening…..that is, everyone but us. I was really not happy. Around nine o’clock our school finally was added to the list as a two hour delay. Phew. I still have to walk down the mountain, but I can do it in day light. I can even go to the gym before, if I wake up with the energy of Super Woman.
To ME it looks like a lot of snow. DO you realize my dogs have never SEEN snow? and one of them is a REAL grumpy old man. Actually many of my neighbors have never seen snow. At this point in my life i am happy to only see it in your videos. I still have occasional nightmares about a phenomenon called “lake effect snow”. I remember my father teaching me to spin a car on an icy hill to turn it around so i could go down frontwards if i couldn’t make it up. Oddly i also remember my FIRST VW- A Beetle- that would bravely go where no other car dared in the snow…but i had to drive with a can of windshield deicer in my hand because the damn heater never worked.
What a great night for snow memories- we’re having a “cold spell” here, and i actually had to put on a long sleeved shirt to walk the dogs.
I got my car part way up and tried to get it turned around, but the road was too narrow. We got a dusting during the night, and I am hoping that puts traction to get up this afternoon. I just am so disappointed in my car. It has front wheel drive, and I thought that would be good enough. We are going to look for an old jeep next week. We need something.
I was going to go walk on the treadmill at the gym this morning. I think my mountain hike will do instead.
YEAH…a snow day for you!!! Kathie, have to tell you, I love your video’s especially the way you sing everything….it cracks me up….I was laughing through your whole video.
OK, I have to comment on the snow. Remember when we were younger and had lots of snow? Well, this year, we have a lot. Right now I think there is a foot of snow on the ground and more is coming this weekend. If the snow that we got before Christmas was still on the ground, well, we could have 2 feet. They say that we are way above our normal level for the year. Some one should define “normal”. And winter is not over. Yes, I had to laugh at the amount of snow you have that caused school closings. Last week, our schools were closed because of the temperatures – before zero(-35 below). I can’t think of the last time we had a winter like this. It all reminds me of our school days and walking to the bus.
Looking for a new car? I can get you a “Friends and Neighbors” deal on a new Ford. We have some great vehicles that can meet your needs. I have all wheel drive and love it in this weather. Let me know if you are interested.
Just thought I let you know that they say that we have had 4 feet of snow already this winter here. Winter is not over. The weather people are saying that we may set a record this year for the amount of snow we get. We are already above what we got last year (40″ last year). I really don’t want mud city because of the dogs. My house will never be clean until all the mud goes away. I don’t look forward to that.
