I have honestly had nothing to blog about. Our house is in a half still Christmas, half not Christmas phase. The tree is sitting on the front porch, but it has rained so much, that we were unwilling to go out and get the storage boxes the decorations need to be put in. We got a new television, which I have not been able to hook up properly. The Best Buy Geek Squad will soon be visiting Possum Manor. It was free with the television we purchased, but I said no, we can do it. No, we cannot.
School is school. I am afraid the inmates are taking over the asylum. I saw it happen in New Jersey, and I am seeing it again in North Carolina. Not a good sign. Is that man who took over that Patterson, NJ high school still available? You know, the one with the base ball bat?
Pam sent me oranges, and I now have permanently orange under the finger nails. They are so good. I take one for lunch each day, and I wear the proof the rest of the day.
Farmers’ Almanac said our big snow would be in early January. Well, we are not suppose to get anything much in the next week or so, so I think they might be wrong. Or the dusting we had the other day is the most we are going to get this year. I enjoy at least one nice snow. I remember snow when I was a kid in Michigan, and miss it more. It would drift high against the house. People would have to put balls on the end of their car antennas just so that they could be seen over the plowed piles at intersections. I remember making snow forts. I remember my mom would tie a scarf over our noses and mouths and great deals of ice would form on them. I remember walking into the house, shedding our coats and legging, and almost not making it to the bathroom. Great memories.
I think I have the January blahs. I will work to shed them. I think the green house is being constructed today. I will have pictures of that for sure. The hens are laying 3-6 eggs a day, and I think only seven of them are laying. The Rock are a month or so younger than the others, so I do not think they are laying yet.
We are going to have a new baby in our little neighborhood next month. Maria, Toby and Kaia are awaiting the addition to their family. We do not know if it is a boy or a girl. Oh the suspense. Babies make everyone smile.
I hope the January blahs have not hit everyone.
What does the farmer’s almanac say about Feb. weather?? Any low pressure systems coming in? Maybe we can predict the baby’s arrival
They do not mention high or low pressure systems, but they do mention bad weather in the middle of February. Maybe I can find that out somewhere on line. Do low pressure systems cause labor to arrive?
I too feel the January blahs….where’s Spring?!?
The only January blahs I have is caused by the lack of snow. Snow makes me happy.
Down here we do not get the January blahs. We get the January blues. That is vast numbers of people with blue hair arriving from the north. For the most part they are a hazard. Apparently their home states do not care if it is no longer safe for them to operate cars as long as it is HERE they are driving. I can assure you it is no longer safe for most of them to operate shopping carts. All of the stores pull out all the little golf cart things for them, and allow them to play bumper cars in the stores. Unfortunately they do not limit themselves to running into each other. They also target anything that moves. I am short and fat, and have had to literally climb up shelving units to avoid being crushed by one of the little blue people on a motorized cart. It is not unusual for them to target displays as well, and the stores stop building their displays so high and fancy during the blue season.
It appears that they Do have somewhat limited hours of operation, apparently due to advanced age. Florida residents quickly learn that it is relatively safe to shop between the hours of 11AM and 2PM UNLESS the stores serve “food samples”, in which case the blue hairs tend to be grazing. Although they do frequent stores that provide food samples (i.e. “free lunch”) during ‘safe’ hours, the blue hairs seem to be slower moving and less likely to be involved in tragic vehicular accidents in shopping facilities.
There is also a phenomenon called “early bird specials”. As i understand it, these are so named because they are frequented by the “snowbirds”, who arrive early to take over restaurants each evening. Restaurant owners and managers take advantage of the early bird arrival by instituting special menus, where they reduce the quantity of food, and print a special menu indicating a reduced price. Often it is NOT really a reduced price, but the blue hairs usually don’t remember what the regular menu said, so they tend to enjoy their bargains.
Florida natives tend to eat out well after 7PM, when we get more food for the same price, and can eat without listening to someone three tables away who needs a Miracle Ear adjustment talk about his prostate.
Many days i think i might prefer the “blahs”.
haahhahahah pam. That is why we live in the mountains, so that the old people will slid downhill all the way to Florida!!!
Pam and Kathie…..THANKS for the laugh….I needed that!!!
I mean slide.
Pam you left out the driving the wrong way down one way streets, the can’t see to drive after dark but do it anyways, and some have pink hair as well. That’s why we only go visit Florida for a little bit and then come back to nice snowy Michigan where our roads are safe to drive until April (when they come back.) We’re looking at a new 8″ of snow on the ground right now.
You know i just sat here for several minutes trying to think of a single one way street in my area. I am not sure we have any. Maybe it is a governmental act of self defense.
I can honestly say i do not miss snow. It’s weird, though, to see Christmas lights on palm trees.
