Possum Manor West Dog Farm

During the Great Depression homeless, then called Hobos, roamed much of the United States. They devised a sign code to warn others, show others where there might be a good meal, or to just give directions.  A few of them are these:

I have come to believe that stray dogs have a similar sign code.  They post the following sign somewhere on the property line:

Translated this means, “Suckers live here. Look pathetic. Shiver.”

What were we suppose to do?  It was the coldest night of the last ten years, and this poor old guy was outside shivering.  Seems he has been in the area about a week, and one of the neighbors had taken him in a few nights. I have not met him, only have seen him via photos. I was supppose to bring my three up for the weekend, but decided it was better to have Old Man West (his new baptismal name) settle in without Brando the Terrible.  He needed about two minutes to eat enough for three dogs and then find a bed.

It is odd, but he seems as if he is home, which is he is, but he needed no adjustment. I think he was so happy to have food and a warm bed. My cat Maudie was the same way. I got her from a foster cat person who had ten or twelve in her apartment. I brought Maudie home and  opened the cat carrier; she walked out, looked around,  jumped on the couch and went to sleep.

He later, as all true Possum Manor dogs do, found the kitty litter.

We do not know what kind of dog he is, nor do we know how old. He is, however, not a spring chicken, but seems healthy.  He goes to the vet on Monday, and we will find out an estimate of his age. If he is very old, it is ok, he can retire at Possum Manor West.

Ann took this little video so that I could see him. He is not very active right now, just thankful to be someplace warm. Contrary to the way it looks, he is not dead.

Kathie, you told me once that Barney hadn’t realized it yet but that he had just fallen into the lap of luxury.

So, smooth collie and some kind of hound?
He looks like a great old dog.
We’re up to seven now-dogs only, though- but i think you’ve passed us…and i thought WE were out of control.
The kitty little thing, by the way, (here’s another bit if trivia)is because of the unique protein needs of cats…their poo actually has more protein than most commercial dog foods. A tiny amount of Adolph’s meat tenderizer on their food will soon discourage the dogs…makes the poo taste like, well, poo. However if you try that you have to monitor closely at first to make sure the cats are all eating. There is occasionally the ultra finicky cat who won’t eat Adolph’s.

Here’s hoping your next vagrant is not a miniature donkey or pot bellied pig.
