Happy Valentine’s Day all. It is a rainy, gloomy Saturday in downtown Leicester, NC; but I am glad to have a Saturday free. I am on a quest today. My new/old car does not have an aux port nor does it have XM radio, both I use constantly. So, we went to Best Buy last night only to find they wanted not only an arm and a leg, but a gallbladder and a piece of a non-egg producing ovary. I have both, but they cannot have them. So, I have been investigating the new XMP3 Radio which does it all, and at a lower price than putting a new radio system in the car. I would only need an aux port. The kind and unknowing XM people ( Last night I was speaking to Indonesia. Did you know they are thirteen hours ahead of us?) said it would come with something to adapt the cd player. Untrue. How can they even say that when I am told by others that there is no such thing? Should be easy enough, right? Best Buy no longer carries them. Geshhh. I am going to hit a few of those teen age car speaker installers today. I do not need to look them up in the Yellow Pages, I just need to listen for the bass beating.
The week in review…..ACHOOOOOOO. That was me. I was kicked by my first cold in about three years. Not bad, huh? I am much better, just snorting every hour or now. Ann on the other hand, had some in office surgery on Tuesday. She has had a big red mole about the size of dime on her leg since she can remember. Her new doctor wanted it gone, so it took it away. Now the big ole mole has been replaced with a big ole incision. I want you to know she kept asking me when I was going to blog her surgery, so she gave me permission for this photo.
She was out of work three days, as he really wanted her off her feet. She went back to work today, and I am sure she will be sore when she gets home.
Pippin the orange cat likes the dogs. In fact when we got him from Animal Haven they told us he preferred dogs to anything, and had been abandoned with a dog. The dog was also adopted. When we got him home, four years ago or so, he would not come out of the carrier. So, we put the carrier on a bed and invited the dogs into the room. He immediately came out. He is a very nice cat, but quite shy. Visitors rarely see him, but the minute they drive away he come out. We often watch him frolic ..dang, when was the last time you heard anyone use the word frolic?…in the yard or on the hill among the trees. He loves it outside. He is the one who likes to sit on heads.
Pippin would like nothing more than to curl up with one of the dogs, but the dogs will not cooperate with him. This is as close as I have seen him be able to get to a dog. I am sure RD was having a senior moment, because he feels no fine upstanding dog would be seen sleeping near a cat.
Notice the mud on the dog bed? We are hopefully closing the mud chapter here at Possum Manor. Our deck guy is adding an 8X8 piece of deck at the bottom, so the dogs have more area to have their feet shed of mud. This is the mud season in NC, and we are proof of that. Last year at this time, we did not have a porch or deck….the mud was awful. It made its way onto the sheets of the beds! It is so much better, but still has room for improvement. We are actually thinking of putting astro turf onto that one section of deck. It cannot be seen from the front of the house because it is behind the picket fence, and we are thinking that may even help the mud and dirt more. When that is done all dogs are getting baths. I bet Xena will end up a totally different color.
We were driving at dusk last night, and I took a couple of nice photos. The quality is not very good because they were taken with my phone, but they are still nice.
This is 240 West, near downtown Asheville.
And this one is just a few moments later, but out the side window. I know they are grainy, but I liked them anway.
I joined the Y a month ago. I went for two weeks and then got snowed in, and then got a cold, and then Ann had the surgery…so I have not gone. They called yesterday to see where I was. Are they channeling my mother? I am going today….this morning….so stop calling.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY to both you and Ann!! GREAT blog, by the way
Ya know, Daddy had a huge red mole the size of a dime on his shin too. Hereditary maybe? I “think” he had it removed a few years ago…not sure.
Love the adorable “Cat on the Head” picture.
And one of these days we will have a house with a piece of property and I am going do the entire yard in artificial turf…It’s environmentally friendly because it is made with recycled products (plastic bottles and running shoes), it lasts for years and years and years and you don’t have to water or mow anything. (I watch too much Bill Nye LOL)
I hope your cold and Ann’s leg are doing much better today!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
okay, i dunno about the CD thing, but there IS an adapter for a cassette player or an FM feed. I used to use the cassette player adapter to run stuff through my truck stereo because it essentially gave me a port. I wasn’t so sold on the FM feed because it’s much more susceptible to interference…anyway, there’s a wire involved and i don’t see how they could make that work in a cd.
personally i like the car stereo shops better than best buy for this stuff, and with the current economy they’re certainly more motivated to figure something out.
anyway…my truck stereo was archaic, but with an eight buck adapter from best buy i could hook up a portable cd player, my ipod, or any number of other things. It did NOT give me XM radio, but then i never tried…
If I had a cassette player it would be easy, but I do not. I stopped at my local pawn shop that deals with new car audio also, not just the stuff people have stolen out of cars and sold. He is checking into an interface. It would somehow connect in the back of the radio, and I could plug an MP3 into it. XM has a new XMP3, which looks good, as long as they do not actually go out of business. XM went into Chapter 11 last week. I will keep you posted.
