We might become grandmamas!!!!!

Goldie, our Silkie hen, has taken to sitting on her eggs….well, a lot of eggs, but one of them is hers. Our rooster is a Silkie. so her eggs could be fertilized.  Last night Carrie moved Goldie, nest and all, to a huge dog crate, but kept it in the hen house.  Poor Goldie immediately ate and drank, as she had not left the nest for about two days, we think.  In this crate she cannot be bothered by the big hens.  This morning she has moved all the eggs in between the water and food bowls. So now she can sit on the eggs, drink, and eat all at the same time and never has to leave her nest.  Clever girl.  Only her egg has the possibility of hatching, as Cecil the rooster is not big enough to fertilize the eggs of the big hens.  We are leaving them there, unless we hear from someone that we should not.

If Cecil and Goldie did the deed and the egg is indeed fertilized, you will know in about 21 days…from the time she laid the egg. Which I think is cool. Baby chickens are soooooo cute, especially the Silkie’s. Keep us updated on lil mama!
And it would be super awesome if you could somehow…possibly…get the hatching on video! Just an idea!

Okay…i like this…we wait for almost three weeks, then have the countdown till when Kathie starts sleeping in the chichen coop to get the birth on video. Actually i’d pay to have a video of Kathie sleeping in the chicken coop.

I want a video of Kathie videoing the hatching so we can see all of her excitement and reactions. It would be great!

I do not like the smell in the chicken house, so there will be no sleeping…no matter how clean the darn thing is. She is sitting on five eggs, only one hers, so that means four rotten eggs left. Or, sometimes they get bored with sitting, and do not finish the project. However, from what I have read, Silkies are wonderful moms, so hopefully she will go full term. hahahah Anyway, keep your fingers crosses that it is a girl; because if it is a little rooster we will have to find it a home. I will go into mourning.

Oh, but if I am there, you can imagine the video!!! I will be passing out little cigars made from something a chicken can eat!!
