Wet, soggy weekend

It has been a soggy week. It was a soggy weekend, filled to the brim with dog mud.  I finished building the shelves for the green house and then made a screened window for the chicken house. I was drenched and cold.  On the way back to the Possum Manor, I took this of Fontana Lake.

The lake level is controlled by the TVA in Tennessee.  They release water at certain times of year.  It is very low right now, but should being coming up soon. Fontana Lake covers an old towns, Proctor, and Japan (pronounced JayPan) which now sits below the water. another one of those Federal Government brain farts, but do not get me going….

It was dreary, as you can see. Today, Monday, it is still raining. I think I am beginning to mold.

back when i used to live in ohio there was a lake that was part of the water management plan…and it, too had many things long left underwater…including an old growth forest. You’d think they’d have at least logged that first…but they didn’t. It was a great recreational area though. once i rented a pontoon boat there…of course i hit two other boats trying to pull away from the dock, and then knocked the marina attendant into the lake. Half an hour later while i was all busy looking at resident wildlife (that would be a turtle eating a dead fish that was caught on something)…i ran directly INTO some of that old growth forest…in a way that kind of got us stuck…the water rangers had to come tow us out of the forest.

i guess you can imagine MY thoughts about artificial lakes now, yeah?

    so…what’s this new hobby???

pam, you are the one who backed into the only tree in Oklahoma, why would you not find a way to get stuck in a sunken forest!!! LOL You and I can NEVER rent a boat or even a pontoon because we would end up having to pay for it! I rented a UHaul once, and as I was pulling I scraped this pole on the side of their drive way. Not a problem except it had a metal thing protruding from it and I gouged a line in the truck the entire length. Good thing I had taken the extra insurance. Then when I got to the our storage rental I took too sharp a turn and knocked over a pole. We still point out that it is leaning.

So, no we will never boat together or UHaul together.

My new craft is rag rugs. They call them toothbrush rugs because the tool used to be made out of toothbrush handles. I bought the four dollar tool instead of whittling one out of a toothbrush. (darn batteries kept getting in the way! My first one is a bit rough, as I do not have the tension down yet. I will put up a photo when I have enough done to not cause your eyes to be drawn to the mistakes. I am enjoying it though.

According to my significant other your primary craft ought to be the manufacture of grape jelly. Frankly i am not sure i have ever had grape jelly that good, and i thought my grandmother used to make the best everything. PATTI, however, actually became dangerous the day after we opened it. I reached for the jar and she came out of her chair, knife in hand, screeching “MINE!”. I thought i was going to have to whittle a toothbrush tool for self defense. Apparently you can take the JAP out of Jersey, but you cannot take the Jersey outta the JAP.

So, rag rugs are the ones that sort of spiral out from the center, right? I think there’s a rectangular kind, too…not quite as stiffish maybe, but i guess my memory is large ovals you have to hang over the fence and wash with a pressure washer because they’re too damn big for the washing machine and the dogs always love to mess them up.

    I googled and found this:
    http://www.sandpoint.net/~rafter4/bohbrd.htm

That looks very nice and looks like it could be used for all sorts of things in addition to rugs.

Very Nice…I can’t wait to see your first finished piece.

I think I could make up some grape jelly some day soon. It is good. Yes, those are the rugs, the circular ones. The one in the link Becky put up is beautiful…I will try to achieve one like that!

Bernice is about to come home. Lord help us!!!
