Did I mention we had a bear last week? The dogs are still traumatized and barking at shadows. It has been sighted by neighbors over the last few weeks, but visited us only once, so much as we know. Somehow it got over the fence and onto the back deck. It knocked the hot tub cover partially off, and then completely drained the bird feeder. The dogs carried on all night, and I am not exaggerating. We go almost no sleep at all. We did not see the bear, only the results. Hopefully, it will not come back.

I finished another rug, and I took a video of them on the front porch. I still do not have my camera, so I had to take a video, so I can use a frame of it to show my rugs on etsy.com. I will post the link when it is finished.

A rain video:

  1. it’s not an odd Florida phenomenon. We have “sun showers” quite often…it’s quite sunny…and pouring…or it’s raining on one side of the street only. This time of year you’ll be driving down the street enjoying to day and drive into a sheet of pouring rain.

We do NOT have bears though. i think you can keep those.

The rugs keep getting better and better…

  2. The starting center of your rugs is better tighter and better! Great job.

I have stopped making rugs for now…I have moved onto crocheted plastic bag holders. You know the ones that hang from a door knob and you put the plastic bags into the top and they are dispensed through a hole in the bottom. I like the pattern I am using because I didn’t have to count my first row so I can just mindlessly crochet. LOL

Keep up the good work and send out the link for your Etsy shop when you get it set up. I LOVE Etsy!!!

  3. I meant to say: “The starting center of your rugs is getting tighter and better! Great job.”

  4. Nice rugs. You might have to make each dog their own rug so they will leave yours along. lol I don’t think I would like to be around when there is a bear. Up north, in Michigan, there are bears, but I have not seen one, nor had one come close to the cottage. I have seen the rain come down in one place and then it just stops, like a wall.

  5. WOW….I cannot believe you guys had a bear on your deck…..to bad no picture or video of him/her….and I can definitely believe the dogs kept you up all night barking like crazy at anything that moved.

When we lived in PA, Jim’s grandmother put garbage outside and we didn’t realize it until outside our kitchen windeow we were looking and watching a HUGE bear eat her garbage….we had front row seats no kidding….reach out and touch a bear….of course I don’t have any pictures of the bear because I was too busy watching him with the kids.

Your rugs are really pretty…..can’t wait to see mine….did you take a picture of the black one with the splashes of color in it….I was curious how it turned out.

well, talk to you soon! :)

  6. Your rug will look something like the blue one posted. That checked fabric seems to work well because it is printed all the way through. When the fabric has only print on one side, it looks different because it is often flipped over. (I am not ironing the fold on each strip, as one web site suggested.) They are very pretty, and I am going to make one for our kitchen that is pieces of all the rugs I have made.

PS Bear has not been back, as far as we know, but the dogs are still barking as if it was.
