First the cat….I have been hunting for a product to use to stop Maudie from using the new lawn as a kitty litter. She has been pooping in rows, as if she was planting a crop. So, the vet told us to use a mixture of essence of peppermint and water. I did that today. I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. It smelled like a candy cane at Possum Manor. I finsihed and came into the house to put the sprayer away. I walked back into the living room and glanced out the window. This is what I saw:
This is not the pooper, but the essence of peppermint has not kept him off that section of the lawn. Any suggestions?
The coop guy showed up tonight, but not with my coop. Seems he was loading the coop onto the truck when he lost his balance, and the coop fell down a ten foot hill. So he brought a smaller temporary coop to use until he brings the correct one out on Saturday. I got a signed bill of sale from him, and I honestly think he will show. But just in case, I am not bringing the chickens back until the middle of next week. I di not tell him this, however. I know that was dishonest of me, but at least that way I have some kind of coop.
Oh he also told me that he almost did not make it, as his road has a flash flood and there was two feet of water.

Lavendar, pennyroyal, or, most effectively, i think, mothballs. Just toss a handful around the area. won’t hurt plants or grass…
spraying on anything is only effective until the next rain, if it works at all.
your coop builder has an amazing imagination.
Don’t use the mothballs….they are toxic to just about everything. If they were to dissolve and get into some water that the cats got into, it could really hurt them. I know that mothballs sublimate not dissolve but I wouldn’t trust them.
Mothballs are made from naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene and studies on mothballs have suggested that they may be carcinogenic, so people should be very careful around them.
You might want to try one of the animal repellants. Like those for rabbits and deer. It is powder and last for days. Yes, you do have to put it down again after a rain, but after a while, the animals get the idea and go away. Most garden centers sell it. It is not harmful to the yard or the animals. It is a chaser.
Now, the coop guy. I would still report him to PayPal. His business manner is something else. You may only get the coop because he is running out of excuses. Unless that is what he does in his spare time. You have patience. I would have done something long before now. And don’t feel like you are the bad one because you told him when you were bring the chickens over. You have to stand your ground and if that takes that, then do it. After all, look what he has told you. How do you know if that is the truth.
By the way, if I lived closer to you, I would be at your place when he got there and give him a piece of my mind. He would not like it. How knows, you might get the coop free if you throw a fit.
Sorry to hear about your poop problem with the cat and that the coop STILL isn’t there….hopefully the guy will come through and deliver it soon.
