Midweek Rambling

School has started, and I am exhausted. Yesterday I came home, sat in the recliner and woke up an hour later. I just passed out.  My soup idea is still going strong.  I alternated between the Roasted Tomato and Garlic and the Thicker than Fog Pea Soup this week.  I gave some away, froze some, and will finish the last of it off at lunch tomorrow. I actually have a thermos that keeps it hot unitl lunch.

Which brings me to wanting a freezer. We have decided to find a used upright freezer to put into the laundry room. We had a small chest freezer, but when we moved we gave it to Ann’s brother Larry. We had and have no space for it. One of our cats, Boogie, misses it though, because she use to sleep on the silly thing. I think Becky use to refer to her as the freezer cat. We keep finding uprights that are six feet tall, but we really did not want something that big.

This weekend I am making Chicken Tortilla and Hamburger Soups. I do not use hamburger but ground turkey or textured vegetable protein instead. Ann does not like it unless it has hamburger, so I might have to make a third pot which she can take to Possum Manor West when she goes next week. Someone just gave me a recipe for Panfish Chowder. It sounds wonderful and I might try it soon.  I am still open to recipes that do not have beef or pork in them.

The bread I made last week failed. I tried again, and it failed again. I think I was using the wrong yeast. I was using bread machine yeast, and I think I was suppose to use the regular yeast. Oops. So I will try that recipe again, along with a whole wheat.  I am going to try to make the wonderful, old fashioned bran muffins that my neighbor gave me. Someone also game me a sample of cardamom banana bread, and I am going to add cardamom to the muffins. What a wonderful spice. How have I gone so long without knowing about it?

My thoughts about school:

I need to win the lottery.

My classes are very small and quiet.

My students seem really sweet this year.

I need time to adjust.

School rules are not rules; they are suggestions.

Thank heaven for coffee.

I actually do like my job; I am just adjusting from the free time of the summer.

Do my chickens even know I am gone?

If chickens think like dogs, and in this case i am pretty sure they actually do, then actually, yes, they probably know you are gone. What they do NOT understand is how long you are gone. You’ll probably note that the dogs greet you as enthusiastically after a thirty minute trip to the store as they do after a full day at work. They aren’t so much aware of time as “this minute Kathie isn’t here”, or “Hey! Kathie is back”. And because dogs love you they get all excited.

I think chickens don’t have that personal loyalty and devotion. However they DO like food, and since they know you bring it i am sure they like to see you coming. I suppose you should be happy that they recognize you as the source of food and leave it at that.

I think especially you should be happy with that given that your students, with their allegedly larger brains, and their parents, who allegedly have both larger brains and more life experience are probably far less loyal and happy to see you than the chickens.

You should also appreciate the fact that no chicken in recorded history has every tried to use a pink gel pen.

Glad the soups are working out and that your classes are small and the students seem sweet, that is always a big help.

Pam, your comment about the pink gel pen made me bust out laughing!! :)

I will have you know that no self respecting chicken would use a gel pen. They prefer computers, but only desk top ones, as they do not have laps.

About school…all teachers need to realize that the only thing the school cares about if you were to drop dead suddenly in class, is, who can they get to cover the rest of the day. That’s something to think about. So don’t get too adjusted.

Sad, but true. They would also worry where your keys were. Which reminds me to worry where my key are. They were on my key chain; now they are not. How do two keys disappear?

It is Friday, and I planning to sleep until I wake up tomorrow, which will be by 8AM, I am betting. (wow that was quite a busy sentence)

  6. admin says:

How has my Friday been going? Well, first, as I mentioned above, I have lost my school keys. Then:

**I forgot to put in my contacts. How is that possible you ask? Well, I see middle and distance almost perfectly. It is reading I cannot do. I found an old pair of readers in the car I will use. They are scratched up, but I can read.

**Then I brought blueberries to have as breakfast. I eat when I get to school as I cannot find time nor desire to eat before 6:30AM. I like to have fruit, yogurt and a dry cereal all mixed together. My little tub of blueberries spilled all inside my school bag. So no fruit and much mess.

***My favorite administrator is being deployed to Afghanistan for a minimum of fifteen months. He is in the Reserves and has already done a year deployment in Iraq. He actually listens. Nice guy. Remind me to send him cookies every now and then.

Ann is home tonight. So that is good. I am making nachos. Come join us.

MMMMMMMM, nachos, be right over!! :)
