Today we headed out to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area for our traditional white trash (or as Ann puts it caucasian rubbish) day. It is less than a two hour drive, and we go and walk through the awful gift shops and watch the people on the bungie jump.
So we left about 7:30 AM, top down, raring to go. When we got on the highway it was only 68 degrees, and we were cold with the top down, so did we pull over and put up the top? Nope. We turned the heat on. lol On we went. When we got near Pigeon Forge it started to sprinkle, which was odd because the sky was blue. Ann told me to drive faster, hoping to dodge the sprinkles when it…..started to pour. We were getting soaked until we found a driveway to pull into and put the top up. We were soaking wet and laughing our silly heads off. We went to breakfast in Pigeon Forge and wondered how difficult it must be to make a good pancake.
We decided to drive up one side of the road and down the other, going to Gatlinburg in between. The first place we stopped was
where they make pageant dresses for little girls. It is really rather disgusting, but we always go in to see the stuff. They sell a lot of factory made quilts too.
From there we went into Gatlinburg and walked around. It was beginning to get hot (It eventually got to 101, according to my car.). We then went to do one of our favorite things: Moving Theater. You sit in a seat, belted in. The seat moves a bit as you watch the movie. Sometimes it is a roller coaster, sometimes a race. Today one was an Indiana Jones type underground race; the second was a race on ice. They were great!
I suggested we take the chair lift up the mountain….Ann hates heights, so we did not go. I told her I would take of picture of what we did not do. lol
We found a great tshirt too:
We had a late lunch/early dinner before we headed back at Huck Finn’s, a restaurant specializing in catfish. What a wonderful meal. They brought a bowl of cole slaw, a bowl of white bean with turkey ham, hush puppies. and the best iced tea I have ever had, which was served in a quart Mason jar. The catfish was wonderful too.
Ann held the money today, so I did not buy all the Tennessee souvenirs that were made in China I wanted. Ann also got each retailer we purchased from to give her a local’s discount. We got in the movie half price.
When we got home we had a surprise…Butter Bean is no longer hiding. She is out with the rest of the chickens. What a relief.

heh…my chicken rocks!
I am SO with Ann…i would not ride up that mountain in those little cars either. It DOES sound like you had fun though…
You all were fixing to head on over thar fer a long time. Glad you all got it out a yur system. Dang it shur looked fun!
I love Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge!!!
Next time you go…go to the Go-Cart race track in Pigeon Forge(We went to the tall, spiral track)…We had a blast on those. Also, if you want to save money on gas….Drive to Pigeon Forge and park your car at the trolley depot, get a trolley map and take the trolley everywhere. It’s 50 cents a person each time you get on the trolley. We rode all around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on those things. No worries about gas, traffic or directions. We loved it and plan on going back again and again!
We did see the trolley, but it was so hot we did not want to be out of the air conditioned car. It was not crowded though, as a lot of schools are back in session in the area. We have done the spiral go carts too. Yesterday it was just too hot to do it. It just dawned on me that we did not eat a funnel cake either. Dang.
Sounds like you guys had LOADS of fun!!
We usually go down the main drag in Gatlinburg and get Fudge and Taffy….but we forgot to the last time we were there.
But, we did go to the Russel Stover Outlet!!!!!
We went the back way, so we did not pass the outlet….which is good for us..lol One of my childhood memories is standing in front of a candy shop in Gatlinburg, watching them make those candy sticks. I think I watched forever. I don’t know which one it was, there are so many now.
If you go back, I cannot recommend that Huck Finn restaurant enough. It was inexpensive, and the food was fantastic.
