I remember a German movie where these men were forced to carry a ship over a mountain to water. I thought it was “Das Boat,” but I might be wrong. That will be later. But for now…..
Isn’t that a beautiful loaf of whole wheat bread? ( I made it.)
Also, we realized that Little Bean was not hatched by the hen that laid the egg. Little Sprout is going to be a blue Silkie, and her hatching mama, Big Bean, is not. Little Bean is a blue, and that is who we figured laid the egg. It does not matter, but it is interesting.
Back to moving a ship over a mountain. Ann had the idea that the coop should be in a different area of the yard. She was right, but we had to figure out how to get this already built coop across the front yard and partially down the drive way. We could not lift it or move it on our own. Ann had an idea, and she called them “skids.” PVC peipe would have worked too, but we hand none. It took us three hours. The coop started at the fence.
It was heading to the place where the fire pit is in the photo.
We got it part way and took a break.
We finally got it there. We were exhausted…make that ARE exhausted.
It does not matter that it is leaning down the hill. That is the direction we wanted it to lean so that the water would fall off the roof and into the gutter. Yes, it is going to have a gutter and a down spout. We also need a name for it. We know where to have the sign made, but cannot think of a name. Possum Manor Poultry is a bit dull.

Wow! What a big difference in size between the new coop and the old one. Those chickens aren’t gonna know what to do with all that space. Can’t wait to see them in their new home.
okay, so i’m thinking about this name thing…and i think i vote for…
(insert drumroll here)
“possum frijoles”….simply because it’s full of beans.
The only problem with that is they do not speak Spanish. The rooster is pretty good with Russian and German, but the hens only speak English. We have such a narrow minded educational system for them.
I kind of liked das coop. Possum Manor Das Coop.
Marsupial Manor?? That’s all I have. LOL
Did you know that the Opossum is the only marsupial in North America and they have opposable thumbs? (http://opossum.craton.net/)
Das Coop…I like that.
By the way, your bread looks delicious!
How about “Silkie Manor” – Division of Possum Manor?
so i took my snarky foster dog to the vet.
he gave her a prescription.
and i go to the pharmacy.
i ask for the pills.
they say :gigi” is a funny name.’
they say they have questions
fine
what is gigi’ full name
gigi.
she has to have two names.
oksy, use mine.
has gigi ever been here before?
no. Gigi isn’t here now. i thought about bringing her, and i thought you’d object. Gigi is a dog.
but this is prozac.
yes, my dog is mentally ill.
okay, what is gigi’s address.
i give her my address.
and what is Gigi’s phone number?
it doesn’t matter she cannot answer the phone. Gigi is a dog.
we need a number.
six.
a phone number.
okay.
there is no end to insanity is there? and worse, there was noone to even offer to sell my ovaries to.
I am laughing at the pam I know having a dog named Gigi.
We once had to get a prescription for our cat Possum (moment of silence as he has passed) at a regular pharmacy. When it was ready, the pharmacist called, “Possum Schmidt.” Everyone looked at me, and I replied, “Family name.”
Norma, I like your name idea. Might be too long for the sign though.
Pam’s post made me remember we owe the vet some money.
I love the Silkie Manor name
The bread is beautiful! You are so domestic, so earthy, besides smart, I wonder often… Anything you and Ann can not do…
Oh btw, I forgot to mention this
Are you sure with the coup leaning that much, they will not have vertigo
Of feel as if they are

I have learned a lot about myself in the last few years. I can do a lot more than I thought.
About the slope….these are mountain chickens. There is no place that is level. Even now I have to check their water with a level and make sure it will not all spill out. I use a thin piece of wood to make it level. They will not notice that it is a little more sloped.
Their food and water is going to hang under the nesting boxes, so there will be no worry about level again. Please do not explain plumb to them them. lol
I like Silkie Manor too. But what happens when I find the Polish chickens I have been looking for? I want a silver laced one….look at them here: http://www.polishchooks.com/chooks_colours.html
I like the silver laced ones but I also liked the gold ones too.
i like the ones with the white heads. They’re very dramatic.
i DID NOT name the dog. Nor did i name Angel or Petunia. But yes, i admit i have a pocket poodle, and she has clothes and even a little sunbonnet. And YES she has freaking little bows in her hair.
And it’s okay if you chuckle at that…gawd knows i do.
Ok, what about Possum’s Chix’s? Or, Chix’s Manor?
Everyone watch this:

I love that. I actually posted that a while back. I read that they only had like one practice too.
If it does not stop raining, Das Coop will never get finished.
Gena, is it raining in your part of NC?
ya mean Das Coop is now Das Ark?!? lol
OK. that is funny. Das Ark.
Das Ark can be the name for the chicken coop. You said that you wanted it postioned so the water would drain and they would not always be in mud and water.
Yes it is raining, and raining and…
Noah is next door building something with wood… His behavior is beginning to concern me, this thing he is building is huge. It is way to far big to be a chicken coup. He did yell over the fence about God telling him something about floods. So it appears we may have some flash floods, I dunno… So I suppose the poor man has gone delusional from the racket all his new animals are making, all the rain and all the hammering he is doing day and night. Noah keeps looking up at the sky too, I guess he is wondering when the rain will stop.
Gena, too funny!!
yo, Kathie!
no offense or nothing, but that bread is stale.
and i haven’t seen Sprout for days and days.
help an old lady out here…
i have an otherwise boring life
(okay, with one or two notable exceptions)
and i need fresh videos and pictures to help maintain my cognitive function…
you do not want to be responsible for the further deterioration of my brain, right? I mean it’s really already bad enough.
First of all, 25 comments is a record! I promise video and photos this Saturday. Sprout is getting big. Little Bean took a piece of tomato from my hand today. We found out we cannot paint the coop until spring because the wood has to dry out.
Hang on…..Maybe I will dig something up to make you smile before Saturday.
yes….DIG,DIG,DIG….PLEASE!! lol
