I am still snowed in. Seems I could get my four-wheel drive down the road, but I would never get back up. So, when Ann comes home this afternoon, I will walk down and meet her, and then we will walk up.

It is sunny and the sky is blue, but it is still cold.

The chickens are insulated with snow. They are just fine.

  1. snow just on one side of the chicken coup? I guess they got their oatmeal this morning huh, gawd u are so good to those sentient beings that u love. I am glad all those surrounded around u are there, u are good.
    still ice here… no fun

  2. Well, I am eating Florida oranges and pretending it is 84. Maybe we should pile in the four-wheel drive and head to Pam’s. She won’t notice a few more dogs.

I walked down the mountain to meet Ann yesterday, and we walked up. School is closed, but teachers have the option of going in and not losing a day. I could get down, but I could not get the car back up, so I did not go in. The weather is suppose to be bad tomorrow, so I do not know when we will go back. I am sure they have taken our spring break away by now, but I have to wonder what they will can take away when those days are gone. It is not even the middle of winter yet.

  3. Hang in there. Wait to see what the ground hog says tomorrow. lol
Lots of good he does these days. It is cold here and no snow. Even though I am Michigan bread, I have had enough of this cold winter and want spring, NOW.

  4. Norma are you still in Mi?

  5. i would notice Brando. Maybe i’d teach him a couple of tricks. He seems to get bad rapped as being not so bright and all…it’s the cats and chickens i might notice.

anyway, y’all are welcome. Just be aware i have neighbors who see live chickens as a walking food group.

  6. Yes, I still live in Michigan. Same neighborhood that Kathie and I grew up in.

  7. still tons of ice and snow here Kathie, how is it there? it is raining some now, maybe it will flush some of this away. school called off? I think we are suppose to be hit with ice again this weekend as well…

  8. Share some of that snow Kathie, lol. We barely get anything here anymore and I like snow. Not enough like you to be snowed in but enough to close school for one day. :)

  9. You can have it all. It is a slushy mess here today. It was icy rain this morning and then just rain. Now the road is so terrible that we got stuck going back up. Had just bought the chickens a bale of straw, so we put it under the tires for traction….and I have four-wheel drive! It is suppose to freeze tonight, so I do not know what they will do about school. We have been out since 1PM on Friday.

  10. ok, decided no thanks on the snow and ice. WOW, you guys have a TON of it. I hope warmer weather is in the near future for you guys so you guys start thawing out. I also hope they don’t take away your Spring break.

  11. p.s. the pics are very pretty, the one of the coup with all the snow on top is just amazing showing how much you actually got.

  12. road here in from of care home is still full of ice and snow. suppose to ice again tonight and snow again friday. its all still frozen so whats another inch or so. I can not even say ours is a slushy mess, its still a snowy icey mess waiting for the next batch. Kathie hopefully they are smart enough to just cancell out the rest of the week huh. I would not like getting up every morning at 5ish to see if I work or not, now they could run it on the 11pm news. one thing for certain, I can not call out, I am stuck here, at least until friday…
hope the chickens are fairing okay. u guys finished the coup just in time huh.\
eat all the florida oranges u want, still won’t make reality of the weather any less real, rOfl

  13. well, y’all keep shoveling. I am keeping the porch light on for brando.

  14. I would blog, but it would seem that I am just posting the same stuff. Snow…slush….stuck….no school…school delay….more snow coming.

The chickens are doing great. I just ordered a half pound of dried meal worms for them. It is their very favorite treat. All three of the girls of laying age are doing just that. I get about a dozen eggs a week right now. In the spring it will increase and I should get three eggs a day.

Brando did not speak to me last night, and he would not even let me pet him. All because I scolded him for trying to eat one of the cats. He is so dang sensitive. This morning he has forgotten about the whole incident.

We have a delay for school. I will not leave until it is light, and when I do I will put my ice grippers on my boots and head down the mountain. I should probably take an extra pair of pants because I know I will fall at least once. hahah Too bad there will not be film of the event.

  15. school has been cancelled here today, yet again… it did nothing overnight, its the same mess that fell, what week was it LOL

  16. School is still on here even though we got snow last night. I have not been out in it yet, but it looks like we got one inch. It is pretty. It stuck to the tree branches, too. I do have to go out in it this afternoon. My new SUV can handle any snow we get.

  17. do i want to tell y’all it’s sunny and bright and in the high 70’s here? Do i want to tell you that we have green grass and flowering plants? That there is about two inches of new growth on my hedges in the last couple of weeks?

nah, i probably shouldn’t tell you that.

seriously, i always hated winter, and i do not envy y’all a bit…i would not change places for anything. Sounds like Brando needs to come visit though, you are obviously mistreating him. Not to mention that i have a poodle who is smaller than your cats who would put him firmly in his place.

  18. Yesterday Brando was sleeping on the couch when he woke with a start, yipped, jumped off the couch and ran to the edge of the living room.
Why? There was a dead mouse on the floor that one of the cats had brought in. He reevaluated the situation, sheepishly climbed back up on the couch, and went back to sleep. He should be living in my coop; he is the biggest chicken in the house.

Rain, ice and snow coming tonight. Have I told you how done I am?

  19. Poor Brando with his anxiety, I can relate. Sounds like Brando and I are kindred spirits.
He and I could have our own chicken coup.
More snow and ice coming in tomorrow and Saturday. I will see how my Grand Am does in the snow… I am off tomorrow. thank Gawd, but I really need two full days.
Snow coming up there again yes?

  20. Well I just spent a white-knuckled hour drive to go to a hotel room JUST SO I can get to work tomorrow. Almost white-out. Kathie and I have decided we are moving to Ocracoke and opening up a shop called: Hippie Island. They don’t get much snow there and we could walk to work. Hey, girls can dream!

  21. It is snowing right now. What time does the bus leave for Pam’s?

  22. We can’t move to Florida. There are alligators behind each and every bush and shrub. At least that is what I have convinced myself.

  23. There is no place like Kill Devil Hill, Nags Head, Duck, or Ocracoke.
I could live in the lighthouse at Ocracoke and be perfectly content, until a hurricane shows up! Glad u made it Ann, white outs are dangerous, besides the roads into Cherokee, with snow and ice. Seems like to me the Hotel could have a place for their employees to sleep, or pay for a room across the street.

  24. In ten years here i have never seen a gator close up and personal….except when i went to chief billie’s everglades swamp safari…where they take you for an airboat ride and FEED the damn things…so you’re surrounded by this churning mass of gators…i mean you could walk to shore across their backs…and yes, even though i know no one ever died as a result of a chief billie’s boat ride i was terrified…but no gators behind the bushes. And, you know, the weird thing about gators is that even though they have enormous power when shutting their mouths…they don’t have much pressure opening them…so the guys who catch them just sort of seal up their mouths with a couple wraps of duct tape. Anything that can be managed with duct tape can’t be that dangerous.

so- brando will be safe here…the only threat to him is my five pound poodle. No gators to have him for lunch.

AND- no driving through white outs…and all the casinos, well, with one exception, are on boats.

oh, and Kathie? when you get up to 24 comments it should be an indication that it has been way too long since we’ve had new pictures.

  25. I love that this blog continues on and on and… To me, way cool. People are listening ;).
We got just a dusting of snow, enough for my relief person to call out, can’t make it… Peaks out the window, oh the roads are clear, just rain and slush. Odd she can not make it in. This call out is almost as good as the previous one, she was far too hung over to work.
    U guys get snow?

  26. This blog IS hysterical because it does just what Gena said it keeps going and going and going……we actually had snow the other night that closed my son’s preschool and my daughter just had a delayed opening. We got about 1-2 inches of snow possibly 3 and by the afternoon it was all melted and this should be number 26 for how many responses to the blog. LOL :)

  27. oooops, by the way Ann glad you got to your destination safely!!
