Hints of Spring

Can it be?  My pussy willow is in bloom..I think it is called a bloom.

The daffodils have popped up, and I think within the week we will actually have spring flowers.

Ann’s rock garden is looking good too.

pussy willows…it does look like spring is finally coming. I guess it’s called a bloom or a bud or something…but yeah, probably a good sign of spring.

heard a story once about these two old Cajun dudes…ole Boudreaux ran a gas station and his friend Hebert (that’s pronounced A-bear) stopped by one day…with a truckload of gatorade. Boudreaux asks what he’s going to do with that. Hebert explains that he’s going down to the swamp to catch gators…you know, you pour the gatorade in the water and when the gators come you hit them on the head and pull them into the boat. Well, Boudreaux laughs and tells him he’s silly. Later that evening Hebert drives by again with a truckload of gators.

A week later Hebert comes by with a truckload of duct tape.

“what you doing wit dat duck tape?’

“going to catch me some duck. You put the duck tape in the trees, you go quack, and the ducks come get stuck.”

Well, once again Boudreaux laughs at Hebert and explains that you can’t catch no ducks wit duck tape.

And off Hebert goes, only to return later in the day with a load of ducks.

Another week goes by and Hebert comes by again. This time he’s got a load of sticks. Boudreux says “what you doin wit dat load of sticks?”

Hebert says, “Dem ain’t sticks, it’s pussy willows.”

Boudreux looks at him for a minutes and says, “you wait here, i get my hat”

LOL I knew someone would post something like that, and you did not disappoint me.

Chick update. The mom has taken up house keeping, with Lucille, outside of the box. I do not know if the baby cannot get up the ramp or what. It is not freezing at night, so I am not worried. My problem is that all the hens are laying in her nest and I cannot get to the eggs. Tomorrow I am doing it no matter how much they fuss. I have to lay on my stomach in all the chicken poop and reach under for the eggs, the whole time trying to push the mama out of the nest. Each day!

Lots of luck with the eggs. You will have to tell us how that went. What happens if it gets too cold for the little one and she can’t get up to the box? Can Mom carry her or will they stay on the ground? Do you have straw on the ground for them?

Maybe when you put the addition on the “Super-Coup” you should construct a nest box that is easier to access?

OMG! When I saw those pussy willows, it reminded me of our yard back in Livonia when we were growing up. We had 3 huge bushes full of them and we loved petting them. Now they are so expensive to buy a few branches to have in the house.

The baby spends most of its time under the mom, so it is nice and warm. I did get the eggs, but the rooster was not happy. He really does his job protecting the hens. As I was reaching under her to get the eggs, the hen was trying to peck my hand. All is well.
