He even looks like a rooster now. The only way we can tell him from Poodle Noodle, is that Poodle Noodle has one black ear and one white one. Lil Sprout has two white ears.  We are also thinking that he needs a name change, as Lil Sprout seems to be beneath him now. We were thinking of Chaz, in honor Chaz Bono, and we mean it with full respect.

Here is Chaz, in his glory.

This is Poodle Noodle, who is accepting the addition of a male with great dignity.

Here is Bean, who is the funniest chicken around. She jumps on the perch the minute I walk toward the coop.

Butter Bean needs a trip to the beauty shop. She wants to get all gussied up for Easter.

Mama and Lucille still hide when I take the camera in the coop, but I got this funny photo this evening.

Mama has gold around her neck now. I have to give her a better name than one of the Beans……something regal. Pam is usually good at names.

  1. ha…well, here’s my thinking…we named one of our dogs Greta because her outstanding feature was her huge feet- like greta garbo, you know? But the bling around the neck…yeah, i know it’s gold and stuff…still i can’t help thinking you know, that diamonds are a girl’s best friend…and while she wasn’t the first to release it…that makes me think of marilyn monroe…which means i’d end up going with “Norma Bean”…

which is what happens when you ask me to play name association when i am stressed and overworked.

  2. Roosters have ears?

  3. haahha Yes, chickens have ears. How else could they hear me yelling, “Chickenssssssssssssssss!” from the front porch?

I think Norma Bean is great Marilyn reference. I would need the Norma here approve first. What do you think Norma?

  4. Well, I was named after Marilyn Monroe, by my father. Part of me says no and part says yes. But the yes wins. It is OK. There are not that many Norma’s in the world anyway.

What is the red on Butter Beans face, between the eyes? It looks like blood or is that the way that type of chicken looks?

Chaz is also a nickname for Charles.

I did not know chickens have ears, either. I don’t see them in the pictures. They must hide them in all those feathers.

I think you are going to have to put names tags on all the chickens so you know who is who. Some pictures, they all look alike. I don’t know how you can tell the blacks ones apart at times.

  5. Now that this one is a rooster, I can tell them all apart.

Norma Bean has gold around her neck.
    Bean is all black.
    Butter Bean is buff.
Poodle Noodle has one white ear.
    Chaz has two white ears.
Lucille is little, and I think she is going to be black with light feathers underneath.

That read of Butter Bean is like a comb, but it is what the females get.

    Ok all….middle names…..

I think Dianna’s is Loranne…..I cannot remember Norma’s. Mine is Gail, and I have absolutely no idea why. Ann’s is Marie. Xena’s is Marie also, only because it sounds good. Brando’s is Hercules…but it is pronounced Hercalees. Don’t even ask.

  6. Mine is Jean - Norma Jean.

  7. HAhaha…My middle name is Rebecca…I hate my first name. :-)

  8. LOL,you were very close Kahtie mine is Elaine.

  9. Mine is Rae, like Norma Rae. Kind of Southern sounding, I guess. The Janet is named for Janet Gaynor, who hardly anyone knows she was an actress.

  10. I have to ask. Why do you want everyone’s middle name?

  11. I just thought of middle names. No special reason. I am not planning on naming new chickens according to them or anything. I just could not remember the ones I once knew.

  12. My kitties do not have middle names. It is funny enough to see a last name on their records and prescriptions from the vet. lol

  13. all of my dogs have middle names. Those middle names change abruptly according to their behavior and my mood. Jack, however, is convinced HIS middle name is “dammit”. The others kind of alternate between things like stinkmuffin, goofwad, chowderhead, and so on. Jack’s middle name could change once dog school starts, but i doubt it.

  14. well, happy easter.
the chickens should be very happy that they are all dark colors so Kathie doesn’t feel a need to color them for he day. Perhaps i should color a poodle. Actually i should think about that. Patti would platz if i spray painted (with hair dye spray) convict stripes on Jack for his first day of dog school. Maybe like pink convict stripes even.

eh, but that’s still a couple of weeks away. SO we have a new foster dog. I was very excited to trade dogs because Don liked to get up really early, and i do not. This one is little and sweet and so very nice…and diabetic. I just had to set an alarm and wake up before the sun was fully up to do the morning walk and feeding and insulin injection.

ah, well, but i guess anyday you wake up is maybe a lot better than the one you don’t- so good morning everyone…and happy easter!

  15. Happy Easter to you Pam and the rest of the gang,:) I bet more pictures will be posted soon (hint, hint) j/k and maybe a video or two. Looking forward to the next blog entry.
