Houston, We have a problem

Poor KnoKnuts has a major physical problem. Her back window has become unglued. Ann called VW and they said you have to replace the whole convertible top. We say no way. So I have investigated the problem on line and found one guy who used “Hammer-tite” on it and it was good as new. We are going to try it. This stuff is available at Home Depot for 9.99, which is much better than $1500.  Right now she is in the hospital wing of the Possum Manor driveway, wearing a big ole bandage.

I fed the chickens this morning, and I think one of the roosters is planning on going on a picnic. He is carrying his lunch.  (I am not at home, and I cannot figure out how to rotate this bugger, so just lay your head on your keyboard and look. Also these photos are grainy because I took them with my phone.)

poor knoknutz! Glad you found a much cheaper way to fix the problem. Hope the research pays off (no pun intended) and the “Hammer-tite” works.

Love the sideways pic. I think every once in a while you should post pictures like that just to keep us on our toes, or rather our sides. :)

I would caution you to do more research before using hammer tite or any other adhesive not made to be used on flexible surfaces. The problem is typically that they hold, and they seal very well, until you put the top down and literally “break” the glue. If it “breaks” then you have the additional nightmare of removing it before you can use something else. You’re going to need a flexible adhesive akin to rubber cement. Personally i’d give a couple of maybe auto glass shops a call and see what they have to say or offer.

Adhesive wise i think my own personal worst blunder was with a table. i got tired of tightening the screws on the legs, you know, so i used liquid nails to sort of permanently fix them. When we moved out of that apartment we couldn’t get the damn table out. well, and then there was the time i was assembling something with super glue, and i kept wiping my hand on my pants. Now, y’all are thinking i glued my hand to my pants, right? Nope. Glued the damn pants to my leg.

Anyway, before you use an adhesive check out it’s flexibility, not only in everyday stuff, but with exposure to temperature extremes (both heat and cold).

Pam, good idea. I will call some auto glass places. The window is glass, so there is no need for something flexible, but I will get their suggestions. I just cannot afford to get a new top.

Dianna, I got your message and will let you know what I order.

Maybe the rooster decided to start early saving up for next winter and is looking for a place to hide his food. lol Specially after the winter you just had. :) :)

I have found out that Gorilla Glue is a good one for the window. It is just messy. We have some of that new frog tape and we will probably tape it before we glue.

I used Gorilla Glue on some furniture in my house. A few years later, I found that the glue let go. I glued the trim back on the wood again and it is holding find now.
