Family is visiting

I have company, but they are still asleep, so I thought I would get in a short blog. My nephew, Michael, flew in on Wednesday afternoon. It is such a good experience to spend time with him as an adult. He is thirty now, and honestly I just cannot believe it. He is a teacher in the Denver area, and it has been so great just sitting and talking with him. He is a really great guy, and I love his views….probably because they are so much like mine!! We have done a lot of running around, having good meals, and sitting on the deck just talking.  Each night we sit on the deck until late, drink a beer or two, and talk.  The one problem with the structure of Possum Manor, which is only an issue a few times a year, is that everything is open. The only interior doors in the whole place are the two bathrooms and the guestroom. So when Ann goes to bed early, as she has to get up at the butt crack of dawn, we really have to be quiet. Evenings have been nice, so being outside has not been an issue, and I have loved the time.

Brooke, Mike’s wife, flew in last night, so we all got to sit and talk. They got back here long after dark, and Ann was sleeping, so Brooke will get the house tour this morning. I have collected enough of my chickens’ eggs to make breakfast too.

What I had not noticed, as I have rarely been on the back deck after dark this year because it has been so dang hot even at night, is that I had not experienced the night sounds of Possum Manor.

There is nothing to see, as it was dark, but turn up your sound.

What you just heard are the Possum Manor Tree Frogs, and they have been booked into Las Vegas next spring.

I was finally able to get the photos off an old lap top which had tried to quit working. I found the first pictures of Brando, and this one is the night we got him home. We, mostly Ann, bathed him in the kitchen sink. He was soooo cute. He had those thinking eyes even then. He had a complete ear.

i think Brando is very handsome. I have always preferred the sort of “bad boy” dogs anyway, you know? And he kind of looks a little like Greta the Wonder Dog- but with better hair and a more proportionate nose.

So, two of my dogs have been going to dog school. Jack is repeating just because he’s really a bad boy. Bonnie is trying it out for the first time. Bonnie is dumb as a bag of hammers, i think. Last Sunday we tried to teach them “down”. Bonnie not only didn’t get it, but in the course of trying to get her to do it she took a huge dump in the middle of the class.

we have been practicing all week. Let me just say she still doesn’t get it. Now tomorrow we go to dog school, right? and this trainer firmly believes that the dogs do not fail- if they don’t get it it’s MY fault.

Our current foster dog is also a black standard poodle. I am tempted to take him instead of Bonnie. HE knows down. I think they might notice the extra body parts, though.

Oh no Pam. My daughter’s inbred Shitzu is dumber than rocks, has a floating eye so you never know if she is looking at you, and even after doggy school and intensive sessions with “Bark Busters” coming to the house 2x weekly for a month, still thinks any rug is for peeing on and pooping in the house is what she’s supposed to do.

well, shitzus, you know- i have some interesting theories about evolution, you know- they’re bracchiocephalic- which means they have flat little ugly faces- and see, i am convinced that their little nonexistent nasal structures are actually internalized and putting way too much pressure on their tiny brains. That results in them being generally grumpy stupid little beasts. When i worked at the vet’s office it always impressed me that the more impossible it was to muzzle a dog the more likely it was to bite.

and speaking of evolution- i am also convinced that the evolution of the human penis has something to do with a weird bowel twist- did you ever notice that a whole string of women can use the same bathroom one after another- BUT if you let just ONE middle aged male in there the air is fouled for hours?

Glad you’re enjoying your time with your nephew and his wife. Sounds like your really having a good time. Love the Possum Manor Tree frogs, they are hysterical and Brando looks adorable in the pics.
