Actually, they were driven up the mountain in a Prius. The hens are having a bit of a crisis, but by tomorrow they will have forgotten the chicks were even here. I will clean the coop out, put in new straw, and all will be grand.
I took a few videos this morning, in preparation for the chicks’ departure. I apologize for the choppiness of the film, especially at the beginning.
This morning I got up and made stuffed crescent rolls, some filled with semi-sweet chocolate, some with raspberry jam. They were pretty darn good. Then I made a second batch of dog biscuits. I am trying to get ahead in the biscuit department, so now we should quite a few weeks’ worth.
Our Black Eyed Susan bush has finally bloomed. I honestly did not know we had them.
Dianna’s D is finally finished. I might get it in the mail this next week. I have strawberry syrup to get mailed too.

OMG!!! All those wasps! How do you prevent them from nesting there? It seems they like all the corners. Do they bother you?
Two videos in one day is absolutely a great job- and the chicken video was wonderful. I have to admit the wasp nests kind of creeped me out- and maybe made me even more scared of Ann if she is willing to get up close and personal and kill them. We have this huge spider camped out on our patio- and you have to know spiders really scare me- (yeah, if i kill one it takes me about a week to be able to sleep in that room again because i have nightmares about all its relatives coming to extract revenge)- BUT- it’s killing mosquitoes and i cannot object to anything that does that, and it’s web is about 8 feet up- so i kind of know that if i spray it it’s going to fall down and land on my head or something- and then i won’t like be able to sleep with myself for a week or so.
Patti shoots bugs with hairspray and gums them up so bad they cannot run away, and then she beats them to death. I thought the hairspray was a pretty good idea once- but of course only because i remembered someone telling me that if you held a match in front of the spray- yeah, mini blow torch. Do i need to add that Patti threatened to gum ME up with hair spray and beat me to a pulp after that one?
Anyway- Ann has my vote for wasp warrior princess of the year. And i am going to miss the babies. Any chance Maria is sending more eggs soon?
I told Maria I would happily do it again. Maybe next spring. I am looking for a white silkie now. That would put us back at six, which is more than enough.
As for the wasps….they are disgusting, but I have learned to live with them. You cannot do anything to prevent them putting up their nests; you can only take care of them once we do. I am allergic, so I just live and let live. However, Ann Warrior Princess of Wasps bought the stuff, waited until dusk, and killed them where they lived. Now we have to knock the nests down. At Possum Manor West live the mud dobbers/ mud daubers that build their long tube nests of mud all over the doors and bricks. Wasps are nasty things, but they usually leave you alone.
I let spiders live now, but once I made one go down the drain. I had nightmares of it coming back with all its friends to get even with me.
Wasps and spiders and bugs, oh my. Totally creeped out.
Loved your Black-Eyed-Susans….your pics are always so professional! How sunny and happy they look….such a cheery flower.
Also, your “D” looks much improved over your earlier effort. Keep up the good work!
do you have any idea how long it is until spring?
now, i get it that we aren’t the ones who have to go feed the chickens, and thankfully we aren’t the ones who have to clean up after them- but it looks like you think we can delay gratification much better than reality dictates.
if there are no chicken babies until spring then there cannot be chicken baby videos until spring.
now, i get it that you are very creative and you’ll find something else to make videos of- but dammit, Kathie, there’s no more hot tub- so no more hot tube videos. And now no babies until spring?
am i whining? nope. i am counting on your creativity.
Oh my, the pressure is on.
WOW….THANK YOU for my “D”, it looks so pretty!! I can’t believe how many wasps nests you had….OMG!! The pictures of the flowers are truly beautiful and those treats look delicious. Ohhhh, and I’m with Pam, the pressure is on.
