Hey girls,,,how jealous I am. This site reminds me of our home and the 12 acres we used to have.. Well, I was from JCNJ and moved to Arkansas/Missouri and built my own home with chickens, goats and a garden. Woo hoo life was good. I learned to chuck a fire and keep the house warm or die since the roads were so icy we couldn't get propane. And I learned to bake and cook with whatever was in the house. Boy I wish those days were still in my grasp.
Well, back to reality nite nite 4 am comes early BOO HOO.
Blessings,,,me

Hey, nice chick photos and great happy ending to the story.

We're new chicken keepers too, unfortunately we had a visit from Mr Fox and he either got into our home made chicken run, or more likely our chickens got out.

We came home to find 'feathers' and a corpse in the back garden... We searched and found one headless body but no sign of the other three chickens.

It took us a couple of hours, but with the help of our neighbours (one who already has chickens and the other who has a fab veggie patch) we found the missing three.

All three had made their way to the end of the garden by the houses. One had gone over into our neighbours garden and was found in a 'mirror' image hiding spot.

For us a big wake up call - Mr Fox is a sly and cunning adversary!

We're keeping the chickens close to the house whilst we figure out a way to fox proof the garden and build a better chicken run.

Fingers crossed, we'll learn from our mistakes and Mr Fox won't get any more 'free range' dinners!

Our blog is pretty new, so I'd appreciate a comment to get things started from a fellow chicken keeper.

Cheers!

Kathie,
Chickens? You never cease to amaze me! The girl from Hoboken has become a real NC adventurer with many more stories to tell as her chicken adventures multiply. They are really cute as young ones, but I thinka s they age they will lose their cute appearance. Brando needed more things to keep him busy...he never disappoints. The chewed up flip flop will be a writing lesson for my fereshmen as a poetry unit begins, nudging their telents on descriptive words and imaginative stories as to what really happened to the green flip. I will send you some of their ideas. Keep the blogging coming....
