Isn’t she cute!!!!

Just a day old, and she is already devouring dried meal worms!!!

Izzy thinks Phyllis is her mama.  Izzy has a cleaner face.

Notice her wormy looking feet. I am use to my chickens having feathers all over their feet. No poop balls on this girl!

I went out before work, and there he/she was…all fluffy and under….Phyllis! Goldie and PN Butter did most of the setting, and Phyllis took over during the last week. PN Butter was sitting on the unhatched egg this morning, so she is still in the equation. Again, I was just using my phone, so the quality is poor. We will take actual nursery photos this afternoon in good light.

Keep your fingers crossed on the second one. I need to research Polish names. My great grandmother’s name was Tekla, but I do not to to harness a poor chickie with that!!!

I spoke with Maria who said this process could take twenty four hours, and I should not help it at all. Its little beak is sticking out, and it can breath, so I need to let it do its thing. Not easy ya know!

Today I used my new electric pressure cooker. First I made chicken soup, which took twenty minutes. Then I made a pinto bean dinner….and I have photos to prove it!

First I loaded the dehydrator with strawberries. It seemed to take forever to do it today, and I do not know how many weeks they will be available. I am living on them right now, and I will miss them when they are done.

I hope I get better at it. Right now things are on the bland side.

I made pinto beans.

I used a turkey ham instead of some fatback, which is pork. Ann said it was good, but would have even been better if I had used the pork. So, next time I will. I will make a separate batch with the pork. I am thinking I might like it without any meat for taste, and I will try it.

Ann likes to put onions and chow chow in her pintos.

Oh, I made a great pan (or pone) of cornbread all by myself. We make it in the cast iron skillet and then put the skillet in the oven. We both like it thin, so most of it is crunchy. I really like it in vegetable soup!

I really hope to have lots of blog days with the new babies, which I think should hatch Wednesday and Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed.

Then I saw that the Copenhagen Symphony had done this before, with one of my favorite pieces, “Bolero.”

And that led me to my all time favorite ice dancing performance. Torvel and Dean skating to “Bolero” has never been out done…..in my humble opinion. I can watch this over and over again, and I shall. (She is the matador’s cape.)

Which then I must segway into this one:

First I had to decide what to wear to a “Women on Target” class, sponsored by the NRA.

Believe me, I should not have worried. Compared to others, I was dressed for the prom.  Just to show you that all my photos do not come out, I will put a few of the goofs here, just for a moment of humor.I took the mirror outside because the light was better. I could have had Ann take the photos, but she was in the shower, and I really had to leave.

I think those are funny. So at least I had  a moment of amusement.

So, on with the class. After learning all the safety stuff, we were put with an instructor. We each then got a chance to shoot a .22 automatic, a revolver, a glok or something like that that was way to heavy for me and made me almost wet my pants.  Then I got to shoot Ann’s gun, which is a Walther PPK. I think the family took if off James Bond when he was not looking.

How did I do?  Well, I thought the .22 was the easiest to shoot, but I enjoyed the revolver a lot. I was best with the Walther though.

Ann took this after I got home, sat in a chair, and slept for two hours. Note the hair going in fourteen directions.  Anyway, the spots at the bottom are the Walther.   I did not do badly, if I do say so myself.

As soon as the ringing in my ears goes away, I will talk to Ann about scheduling our day at the range.  I have no interest in carrying a gun, or buying one, but I think I might want to take a class where they teach you to shoot a rifle.

We each have had a tick or two.  I found one on my desk at school. I took one off the bathroom wall this afternoon and flushed it.  Now I cannot make myself use that bathroom, for fear it will come out of the pipes and attach.  I HATE ticks!  I am considering putting that stuff on me that protects the dogs. They have had NO ticks.

PS.  Tomorrow I am taking a gun class sponsored by The Women of the NRA.  I have never touched a gun.  I sure hope they let me take pictures!!
