It was a long week, and actually it was the first full week of school since the second week of December. Can you imagine? I had a great, long sleep and feel great.

Thoughts and tidbits:

I woke up with the thought, “I should make iced tea today.” How odd is that?
It was sunny for an hour, and it made me so happy.
We are getting rid of the hot tub. The guy who sold it to us came out and took the parts he wanted, now we need to put it on free cycle. The tub cannot be moved off the deck; it will have to be dismantled. We will sell the top.
Baby Lucille is doing well. I took some fresh corn for the mama to eat, and Lucille came running out from under her to gobble it up herself. I do not know when they will leave the box and come down with the others. The others do sleep in the box with them at night.

Crushed cracked corn, crushed chicken food, and infant cereal flakes.

A bit blurry, as it is very difficult to get a good photo in that nesting box.

She has white on her chest, and I hope it stays because it will be easier to figure out who she is when she is bigger.

I asked the others how they felt about the new baby. Their replies were:

Butter Bean: I am not sharing my worms.

Poodle Noodle: I am going to have to get a job to support this ever growing family.

Lil Sprout is a rooster. Ann heard his feeble attempt to crow this morning. Poodle Noodle crowed, and Lil Sprout tried to follow. Now this could be a problem, but so far it is not. Two roosters often do not get along, but since they are Silkies and Poodle Noodle is the dad, maybe they will.

Keep your fingers crossed that the soon to be hatched one is a girl. Her name is going to be Lucille, as she is scheduled to be born around the time of my mom’s birthday. If you knew my mom, you would know that she would think it was funny. Hopefully the hen is not sitting on a unfertilized egg.

First, I am disappointed at the lack of sympathy and gift offers I received after that nasty injection in my knuckle, which is now swollen and bruised. But that is ok…I will suffer along and put up a blog (back of my hand across my forehead).

My niece, Olivia, is a chicken whisperer. All weekend she would go out and crow, and the rooster would answer back.It was funny, and noisy, and I finally got it on video.

They really pulled off a big surprise. They even ordered my favorite cake and picked it up before they met us at the restaurant. We were being ushered to our table when I heard my niece yell “Happy Birthday Aunt Kathie,” and then I saw her and my sister and brother-in-law. About five minutes later my brother and sister-in-law popped out from hiding at the bar. Amazing!!!

We fed the chickens constantly. Crowing takes a lot of energy out of them.

My niece, Olivia, pondered the VW bus and asked, “Aunt Kathie, do all houses in North Carolina have old trailers?” Hee hee.

Brando had a real hard time dividing his time between all the people. These photos are not great as they were taken with the phone, but they are worthwhile though.

This one is really bad, but you can still see the silly face on Brando.

He was not going to be kicked off his many beds, not even for company. This is my brother, Dave.

After they all left, Brando had to recover. Being a good host is very exhausting.

Now the weekend is over and we were hit with more snow. Snow day today, which means we go to school on Saturday.

The one hen is still sitting on her egg, but the other two are laying. Two eggs today in the middle of a snow storm!!! They got nice, warm oatmeal this morning.

The Greatest Surprise Ever!!!!!

Friday night Ann and I went out to dinner. What I did not know, but Ann did the whole time, was that my family was going to be there to surprise me for the weekend. Dave and Deb, my brother and sister-in-law flew in from Detroit. Diane, Stewart, and Olivia flew in from Chicago. It was a wonderful weekend.

I have photos and stories to tell, and I will post them tomorrow. Why tomorrow? We have a major snow coming in tonight into tomorrow, and I had a cortisone injection in my right pointer finger knuckle today, and it is killing me. I have to ice it.

I am done with winter. This snow day today puts us into another Saturday school, this time in June. Any snow days from now on will be made up on the Saturday following the missed day. That means do not make plans.
I wore my underwear backward yesterday. Same pair I did before. Actually, I think they fit better backward, but maybe I need a laundry marker: front/back.
The low fat banana bread recipe I have makes the best I have ever eaten. Two slices with cream cheese between makes a fantastic breakfast.
I cannot drink.
I love apples.
My chickens are spoiled.
I wish I had learned how to do those twisty-turny ski jumps.
Apolo Ohno is oddly attractive.
I forgot to renew my car tag…..in October.
My driver’s license expires next week.
It is so windy that while at the bird feeder, the cardinal’s top feathers were sideways. By the time I got my camera, he was gone.
I love doing this blog, but sometimes I just cannot connect to my creative side.

I took this first video on Tuesday as I slid down the road to my car.

I took the second one today. What an incredible weekend. Both days were in the fifties and the sun was out!! The snow is still there, but we do live on the north side of the mountain.

Last year this area received about five inches of snow, total. This year we have had over thirty, and it is only the middle of February. We had no school on Thursday, were sent home early on Friday, had more snow on Saturday, and are to be hit again tonight. If we miss tomorrow, we have to go on a Saturday in March. We are totally running out of possible make up days. It is crazy.

Saturday morning:
That is sage on my dashboard. Carrie put it in our cars, as the Native Americans believe it keeps you safe. I needed it Saturday.
